POLICLINICO UNIVERSITARIO CAMPUS BIOMEDICO DI ROMA
The treatment of multiple trauma patients represents one of the most complex and challenging challenges for the modern orthopedic surgeon. It requires not only excellent technical skills, but also rapid analysis, multidisciplinary coordination, and a comprehensive view of the therapeutic pathway. This course is specifically designed for young residents and new specialists, with the aim of bridging the gap between academic theory and emergency practice in the operating room. The training program aims to provide participants with a comprehensive set of practical skills and competencies for: Diagnostic Assessment and Management: mastering triage protocols and initial assessment according to clinical priority criteria. Damage Control Orthopedics (DCO): understanding surgical timing, learning to stabilize the patient early through the use of external fixation and other emergency techniques. Definitive Fixation Strategy: developing an accurate preoperative plan for different fracture types, choosing the most appropriate reduction and fixation techniques (intramedullary nailing, complex joint fixations). Complication Management: Early identification and management of potential risks associated with major trauma. The course adopts a highly experiential approach. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with real clinical cases, simulated emergency scenarios, and practical dry-lab and cadaver-lab sessions, where they can test instruments and materials under the guidance of expert tutors. The program is intended for residents and new specialists in Orthopedics and Traumatology, ready to consolidate their foundations for their imminent entry into the professional world.
